She makes a valid point.

My boyfriend is Indian (Asian) and I'm becoming a bit more like, aware, of how people talk about race, and how, through vagueness and sloppy terminology, people unintentionally show how little they know or care about racism. If you casually toss off phrases like, "Equality for all: black, white and neon green people," you can seem more than a little ignorant and unconcerned with real-world prejudice. Since he and I have been going out and I've learned more about Indian culture(s) I am trying to get into the habit of specifying East Asian when I want to refer to someone from East Asia.... rather than using a word like, "Asian" because that can apply to so many different (and different looking) people.
