i have the blogging urge lateley
Jul. 30th, 2007 06:27 pmI think its because I'm reading more and being more politrical
I was thinking about my feminist blog and why I dont use it anymore, and I'm just sick of the fighting and the obsession with porn. often all feminits bloggers write about is porn and sex as if thats all there is to feminism. And often really judgmentaly as well. I do have definate ideas and political stances of what is feminist behaviour but i am not going to judge individuals on there consensual sexual behaviour because you never know where people are comming from especialy with something as sesitive as sex.
and feminist bloggers are so horrible too each other (I'm sure this isnt just feminist bloggeres, I'm sure its all strongly political bloggers) and spend so much time fighting and judging and criticising each other that the important things dont get talked about.
I am quite a radical feminist (and by radical I dont mean stronger or a better feminist than anyone else, i mean I inhabit a specific political position) but I really really think that surely any woman who calls herself a feminist would be able to meet in the middle with any other woman who calls herself a feminist and find something they have in comomon that they can use to be politicaly active together.
One thing that irritates the hell out of me about so called "radical" feminists in the blogsphere is the westerncentricism of it. And I have seen it writen in lots of places that no woman can be a feminist if she has a relationship with a man. where does that leave women in places where there are no other choices except to get married? That doesnt mean they arnt feminists. and i would argue that a woman fighting for equality in some places in the world who is married to a man is far more radical than western seperatist women because she has far, far more to loose.
Even if i agree with a lot of stuff some bloggers say I really dont want to be asociated with the bloggers in question because i have ssen the way they rip other feminist blogs apart.
so I think for me, though I do have a lot to say i think i will stick with just writing my thoughts here and actualy hving discusions with feminists in the flesh and with working on campaigns the action group have got going.
